Information Technology Consultants
The HelpDesk is an integral part of the Information Technology department here at Mount Union College.
Students of Mount Union College have an opportunity to help support the campus as an Information Technology Consultant.
The role of an ITC is an important one. They are the voice and the presence that most faculty, staff, and students see and
interact with on a daily basis. Therefore, they are representative, not only of User Support Services and the HelpDesk,
but the entire Information Technology department as a whole.
The position of being an ITC requires the student to answer and provide solutions to technical issues both on the phone, in person as well as onsite.
Technicians perform multiple functions, among them troubleshooting, printer maintenance, office visitation checks, liquidation of machines, installation of new equipment and peripherals, maintain inventory,working on Track-It work orders, working on special projects. Provide free of charge technical support for student owned computers.
The goals of an office visitation:
To help determine the condition of their computer equipment
To help maintain their computer equipment
• To take a proactive stance toward computer related problems • To verify inventory of all technology equipment on a regular basis
The goals of public lab visitation:
• To provide regular maintanence of all the equipment in our public computer labs. Make sure that the computers in the lab are up and running and connecting to the network as well as the Internet. • Make sure all the software is current and working properly. Make note of the condition of all the lab equipment. Report to the HelpDesk Manager any problematic equipment. The User Support Services Manager will determine if it is to be replaced.
The goals of network printers:
• ITC employees will make certain a proper label appears on the front of the printer to ensure proper identification when reporting any problems to the Helpdesk.
Make sure printer is functioning properly and paper trays are full.
• Make regular upgrades to the hardware as determined by The User Support Services Manager.
