Wireless Networking
Wireless networking began at Mount Union College in 2002 when the first wireless network infrastructure was introduced in the Kolenbrander Harter Information Center.

The Information Technology Department selected a wireless infrastructure from Enterasys Networks. Wireless technology is now available in the following buildings:

All academic buildings.

All residence halls.

Several locations outside in including the Quad.

All small houses except 562/564 Vincent.

We are currently installing in the process of new equipment which gives us many new options. It provides faster speeds and in addition, allows the opportunity for alternative connection options. These include limited Guest Access as well as Web Access for users that can not use 802.1x Authentication

If you have ideas for other locations that you would like to see wireless, please contact the Helpdesk.

Mount Union College supports wireless capability for Windows XP and 2000 operating systems

Wireless Security

Web Authentication - If you attach to a wireless network that uses web authentication, after connecting, you must open a web browser, then enter your campus information.

Play it safe. It is possible for someone with the right equipment to monitor your network traffic. Never submit sensitive information such as credit card numbers, pin numbers, etc. through un-encrypted web pages.

Know the rules. Use of the Wireless Information Network implies consent to abide by all College policies pertaining to the use of computer resources at Mount Union College. Policies may be updated periodically without notification. It is the user’s responsibility to review applicable policies on a regular basis.

Take responsibility. The security and integrity of your computer ultimately resides with you. You should assume that your system is visible to any would-be hacker on the net and act accordingly. Anti-virus software is required. Proper configuration and regular software updates are a must.

We're watching. Network Services maintains the right to monitor, trace, intercept, or block any network traffic for security or management purposes. Our goal is to maintain a safe and productive network environment for the entire MUC community.
