VPN - Virtual Private Network
A Virtual Private Network is a private network that is configured within a public network. To establish this private network, data integrity and confidentiality are protected through authentication and encryption. A VPN creates an encrypted connection from one peer to another thru PPTP (Point to Point tunneling Protocol).
VPN will allow a user to connect to the campus network from an off campus ISP (Internet Service Provider) and make it appear to the user that they were physically connected to the MUC network. VPN will allow users to gain access to their home space (H:\ drive), departmental common space (S:\ drive) and hand-in and hand-out folders (M:\ drive).
Mount Union College’s VPN has been released to faculty and staff members and soon will be released for non residential students. For instructions on how to configure your home computer please choose the appropriate instructions below. VPN will be supported only for home computers that are running Windows 2000, XP Home, XP Professional, Mac OS X.2, and Mac OS X.3. |
