Current Projects for Network Support Services

Network Upgrade.
During the Summer of 2004 Network Services will be upgrading the campus data network to Gigabit Ethernet Technology.

Wireless
Wireless is available in Bracy Hall, KHIC 24hr space and HPCC. During the 2004-2005 Academic Year Network Support Services will be expanding wireless technology in to Residence Halls and Academic buildings. By Fall, 2004 Wireless will be available in Ketcham, McMaster, McCready and Cunningham Residence Halls.

T-H Renovations
Tolerton and Hood will be renovated during the Summer of 2004. As part of these renovations additional technology will be implemented. Included in these technology improvements will be several Multi-Media classrooms, high-speed data connections, and wireless capability.


Registering of Student Machines
Network Support Services is currently working on establishing an automatic way to register each student machine that is brought on campus. This will require students to authenticate before being given a valid IP address. The goal of Network Support Services to have this in place by Fall, 2004. Additional information will be forthcoming.

Updating Telephone System for 911
This project, once completed will establish an exact address, including office or room number if 911 is dialed from that location to the necessary safety personnel.


Past Projects

Spring 2004
VPN
VPN allows a user to connect to the campus network from an off campus ISP. VPN is available for Faculty, Staff and Non-Residential Students. Features include: Encrypted data transfers including E-mail, ODBC, File Services and Remote access to the users office computer

Summer 2003
New ID Card System
An upgrade to the Diebold ID Card system was implemented. This upgrade replaced ID Cards, many readers on campus, the server running the application, and gave new functionality, such as choices in mail plans, and online access to card information.

Bracy Hall
Technology in Bracy Hall included three Multi Media Classrooms, 100 switch technology, 7 door access readers, a new science computer lab and cameras.

Goodbye Novell, Hello Microsoft
Migration from Netware for file and print services to Microsoft Active Directory was completed as well as migration from Novell GroupWise email to Microsoft Exchange.
