Wireless networking began at Mount Union College in 2002 when the first wireless network infrastructure was introduced in the Kolenbrander Harter Information Center.

Q. What do I need to purchase so I can connect to the wireless network?

A. You will need a wireless network card for your laptop or desktop computer. If your laptop or desktop computer did not come with a built in card you will need to purchase one. Wireless cards come in several varieties. It is important to purchase a card that is compatible with your computer and with our wireless standard of 802.11b.

PC Card/PCMCIA Card - fits most PC Card slot found on most laptops.

MiniPCI - fits the miniPCI slot available on some newer laptops (Check your product documentation)

USB - External device that connects to the USB port on a laptop or desktop computer.



Q. Where can I purchase an 802.11 wireless network card?

A. Wireless network cards can be purchased from almost any computer or office supply store.



Q. Where is wireless available on campus?

A. Wireless is currently available in the following Academic Buildings: Bracy Hall, Hoover Price Campus Center (HPCC) Tolerton-Hood and the 24hr space of Kolenbrander-Harter Information Center.

Wireless is also available in the following Residence Halls: Bica-Ross, Cunningham, East, Elliott, Hoiles-Peterson, Ketcham, King, McMaster, McCready, and Shields.
